In today's challenging job market, the most successful professionals need to recognize their competitive edge, create and maintain their personal brand to stand out in the crowd.

The event will present a unique opportunity for professional women and those in career transition to hear from a panel of experts and find business attire to help them establish their personal brand, recognize their competitive edge and stand out in a challenging job market.   
The panel will be moderated by Columbia University, Graduate School of Business, R.C. Kopf Professor of International Marketing, Noel Capon; Panelists are Jamak Khazra, founder and designer of Bluesuits, LLC, Beverly Daniel, founder of the CareerGrowth Group, Jill Lauri, Success Coach and Cindy Pace founder of myprofessionalsavvy.com.

The evening will feature a panel discussion about professional personal branding, and an informal showing of the Bluesuits Collection, career wear that flatters and fits, showcased on women in the audience and display racks at Saks Fifth Avenue Café on the 8th floor. A networking cocktail reception will follow the presentation. Guests will have the opportunity to view selections from the Bluesuits Collection and take advantage of discount shopping, at Saks Fifth Avenue. In addition there will be stations in the café with Chanel Cosmetics to do make up touch ups.

A ticket price of $30 for Columbia Business School Alumni Club of New York members, and $45 for the general public will include the evening program, cocktail reception, 25% discount at the Bluesuits, complimentary coaching session with Jill Lauri.

Moderator:
Noel Capon is the R.C. Kopf Professor of International Marketing and past Chair of the Marketing Division, Columbia Business School.  Educated primarily in Great Britain, Professor Capon earned B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry from University College, London University. He also received degrees in Business Administration from Manchester (Dip. BA), Harvard (MBA), and Columbia Business School (Ph.D.). He currently also holds the position of Distinguished Visiting Professor at Manchester Business School in England.

Professor Capon served on the faculties of the UCLA Graduate School of Management and Harvard Business School before joining the Columbia Business School faculty in 1979.  He has also served as a Visiting Professor at INSEAD, Fontainebleau, France, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and the China Europe International Business School (CEIBS), Shanghai, PRC. 

Professor Capon contributes extensively to Columbia Business School's Executive Education. He is Director of the Managing Strategic Accounts and Strategic Pricing programs. He recently inaugurated the Global Account Manager Certification Program in conjunction with St. Gallen University in Switzerland. He teaches on the Columbia Senior Executive (CSEP), and Executive MBA (EMBA) programs. He founded and directs the Advanced Marketing Management Programme in conjunction with the Chinese European International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai. He also designs, directs and teaches in numerous custom programs for major corporations globally.

Professor Capon has published over 60 refereed articles and book chapters, and is editor for sections on Marketing, and Sales Management and Distribution, in the AMA Management Handbook (1994). He has published thirteen books: Corporate Strategic Planning, a major study of the planning practices of major U.S. manufacturing corporations (Columbia University Press 1988), The Marketing of Financial Services: A Book of Cases (Prentice-Hall 1992), Planning the Development of Builders, Leaders and Managers of Twenty First Century Business (Kluwer Academic Publishers 1996) on the curriculum review process at Columbia Business School, Why Some Firms Perform better than Others: Towards a More Integrative Explanation (Kluwer Academic Publishers 1996) on the underpinnings of superior corporate financial performance, The Asian Marketing Case Book (Prentice Hall 1999), Marketing Management in the 21st Century (Prentice Hall 2001), Marketing Management in the 21st Century (in Chinese, Shanghai People’s Publishing 2001), Key Account Management and Planning (The Free Press 2001), Total Integrated Marketing (The Free Press, 2003), and Managing Global Accounts (Wessex 2008).  

Most recently Professor Capon has published The Marketing Mavens (Crown Business 2007), a new textbook, Managing Marketing in the 21st Century (Wessex 2007) and a companion marketing planning workbook, The Virgin Marketer (Wessex 2007). Jamak Khazra,
http://www.bluesuitsonline.com founder and designer of Bluesuits, LLC, sold her first creations to stores when she was only 15 years old.  Jamak has consulted and dressed thousands of women from Wall Street executives, TV anchors, including local and national news anchors and Hollywood celebrities, to business, law and medical students embarking on a new course in their lives.  Bluesuits Collection was created and launched in 2000, by Jamak to address the wardrobe needs of professional women who could not find the appropriate styles and fits in the stores. The collection is sold in high end specialty stores as well as directly to consumers through trunk shows and Bluesuits online store and independent sales representatives. Jamak holds a masters degree in piano performance from University of Illinois and MBA in finance from Columbia Business School. Prior to starting Bluesuits, Jamak worked in equity research on Wall Street. 

Beverly Daniel, www.careergrowthgroup.com founder of the Career Growth Group, is a well-known business executive and management consultant in the human capital development and management field.  She has more than 25 years experience in:  career management and development, executive coaching, executive search, and leadership development and leadership training.  She has served as an executive search consultant to numerous major FORTUNE 500 companies; i.e., Avon Products, Colgate-Palmolive, Exxon-Mobil, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Deloitte Consulting and McKinsey & Company.  Beverly has helped numerous people in charting their own career planning and career growth through her career counseling services. Beverly currently teaches courses in Career Exploration at Queens College.  She is developing a course for entrepreneurship which will be taught over the summer.  In addition, she writes a bi-monthly column in The NYC Informer newspaper.  Beverly holds an MS in Psychological Counseling and an MBA in Management.   She studied for these degrees at Columbia University and New York University respectively

Jill Lauri, http://www.jilllauri.com/ is a Columbia Business School Alumni recommended Career Coach.  Jill specializes in unique and out-of-the-box approaches to career management and transition.  She coaches corporate executives and entrepreneurs, in-person and over the phone, using innovative techniques that can release creativity and transform career uncertainty into opportunity.  With her knowledge of personal dynamics and coaching skills, Jill helps clients navigate through their careers by capitalizing on stress, maintaining balance and embracing change.   Jill leads seminars, trauma debriefings and groups for professionals interested in exploring alternative career options.  Jill holds an MBA from Columbia Business School.  She has managed accounts for Interactive Market Systems, International Business Machines, American International Group and Merit Behavioral Care.  Sixteen years ago, she shifted her career and earned an MSW from Hunter College.  Jill is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  She shares the wisdom that she has gained through her own career transitions and is committed to helping clients create their dream careers.

Cindy Pace, http://myprofessionalsavvy.com/ Professional Savvy blog, an interactive career blog and podcast for young professional women who want to be seen as confident, competent, capable, and credible in today’s competitive workplace. Cindy defines Professional Savvy as “someone with a strong personal brand who exhibits wit, self-confidence, verve, and high social intelligence characteristics of or befitting a profession or engaged in a profession; well-informed on how to communicate, look, and behave in any business environment; takes initiative regarding her career advancement; easily navigates through political landmines in the workplace.” Cindy graduated with BS degree in Biology from Morris Brown College and Medical Laboratory Training and certification in Clinical Laboratory Science and Clinical Microbiology. She is currently pursuing graduate degree at New York University in Organizational Learning and Communications.  In her spare time, she is an active volunteer with Dress for Success Worldwide where she facilitates seminars on Projecting a Professional Image for students and women re-entering the workforce.  Also, she is Jumpstart Career Coach at the Young Women’s Leadership School in East Harlem.
